Trauma Work

Many of my clients come to me for support in resolving the painful, disruptive, and often confusing aftereffects of trauma, whether resulting from a discrete event or a longer pattern of harm or neglect. They might struggle to maintain healthy relationships, or they may find themselves wrestling with ingrained patterns of self-criticism, self-harm, shame, or a deep sense of inadequacy.

My trauma work is informed by three core principles:

Collaboration

I approach our work together with care, curiosity, respect, and the belief that you hold the innate wisdom and instinct necessary to grow awareness and create change. I see my role as a supporter and facilitator in your process of exploration, growth and healing.

Present-Moment Awareness

I find that the greatest transformation comes when we direct our attention — with gentleness and deliberation — to how the legacy of trauma shapes your present-moment experience. Together, we bring curiosity less to the precise stories of your past than to the ways your history becomes active in the here and now.

Integration of the Body

Trauma shows up in our very marrow, held in the form of implicit, living memories that “speak” through our bodies at the level of the nervous system, musculature, movement, and more. Using mindful exploration, we get to know how you hold the traces of your particular history and what brings relief and release.

I have found that as clients connect with their felt sense of experience, over time, they achieve a new capacity for self-compassion and ease.
